Championing Women in Sport Breakfast
2016 was an impressive year for women in sport. There were some remarkable women who made their presence known within the world of sport, and not just on the playing fields. To keep this momentum moving forward the AISTS is hosting an informal breakfast for all our female athletes, administrators and leaders.
The purpose of this event is to discuss current trends in sport for women and look closer at possibilities being created in the sports administration sectors. We will discuss athlete career transition options and hear from some women who have made the change to administrators over the past few years, after calling quits from their respected sports. Furthermore, the transition from administrator to decision maker will be a focus point. Measures are being developed through various federations for the increase of female decision makers, however further support and guidance is needed.
Mara Abbott, Rio 2016 Olympian and Team USA cyclist, will be part of our expert panel. Mara has been a professional cyclist for the past 10 years, most recently representing the United States of America at the Rio Olympic Games. Mara has won numerous events including the US national road title, twice and her most famous race was at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games this year. Mara has presented at TEDx and will be the AISTS keynote speaker at the 2016 Graduation Ceremony. She has just recently announced her retirement.
Other members of the panel include Andrea Marcellini, Nikki Symmons and Anne-Sophie Thilo all of whom are AISTS Alumni and have successfully transitioned into the international sports sector.
