The Sport Innovation Challenge (SIC) are annual challenge organized by ThinkSport where participants find innovative solutions to solve current and future issues for the sport industry. Data-Hack is for tech universities that compete through their students teams against other universities.
This year it addresses challenges from the International Skating Union ISU, is co-organized by scoreTec, sponsored by Swiss University Sports and Alibaba Cloud.
- Academics benefit from an external program and resources that can complete their own academic program, access to real data, an exciting opportunity for their students and the opportunity to measure up to other universities.
- Students receive an exciting project with real data, an exclusive link to an international sport’s federation, training and tools from our partner Alibaba, access to mentors and to a new network of students. The winning solution could be showcased at the Milco Olympic games.
They will need to address one of the two topics proposed by ISU:
Topic 1:
Beat to Glide – The Ultimate Skating Soundtrack Challenge
The problem: How can we generate emotionally powerful, legally safe music for figure skating programs across all levels, while preserving artistic impact?
The mission: Analyze the intricate dance between skating programs and music using AI-powered tools. Propose innovative methods to generate music tailored to movement, mood, and rhythm without breaking copy-right laws.
Data and tools:
- Video footage + program descriptions
- Alibaba’s InspireMusic generative model
- ComputerVision tools for music-movement alignment
- AnalyticDB + FunctionCompute for program-music analysis
- PAI-EAS for scalable AI deployment
- ECS + OSS for hosting & data storage Profiles (students-labs)
- AI/ML Engineers
- Music Information Retrieval Experts
- Multimedia Analysts
Topic 2:
Data on Ice – Unlock Hidden Stories
The problem: How can ISU’s vast archive of data videos, results, bios be transformed into rich, engaging narratives for fans, media, and governing bodies?
The mission: Mine ISU’s structured and unstructured data to deliver personalized insights, predictive stories, and unforgettable fan experiences. Show how ISU can deliver engaging data products to their audience.
Data and tools:
- Structured & unstructured competition data
- Athlete bios, videos, results
- Qwen LLM for generative storytelling
- AnalyticDB + OpenSearch for querying and insights
- PAI-EAS, ECS-GPU, and OSS for scalable app & data services
Profiles (students-labs):
- NLP & Data Science Researchers
- Sports Analytics Enthusiasts
- Knowledge Graph & Vector DB Experts
- UX Designers & Fan Engagement Innovators
