Gen-next Challenge – For Students

The Sport Innovation Challenges (SIC) are annual challenge organized by ThinkSport where participants find innovative solutions to solve current and future issues for the sport industry.

SIC-Gen-next is for business universities that compete through their student teams against other universities. It is sponsored by Swiss University Sports.

This year is the 6^th Gen-next edition, it addresses challenges from the International Basketball Federation FIBA.

Academics benefit from an external module and resources that can complete their own academic program, access to real data, an exciting opportunity for their students and the opportunity to measure up to other universities.

Students receive an exciting project, an exclusive link to an international sport’s federation, training and tools, access to mentors and to a new network of students, finals at the house of Basketball.

They will need to address one of the two topics proposed by FIBA:

Topic 1:
How can FIBA enhance its value proposition to drive the growth of its Direct-to-Consumer business?

By Direct to Consumers, we meant:

a) a strong and profitable merchandising/licensing program;
b) opportunities to monetize FIBA’s digital engagements, i.e., website users, social media accounts followers. We expect a business proposal based on FIBA brand and/or FIBA’s own brands, and/or FIBA Digital Portfolios

Topic 2:
How can FIBA tap into the opportunities of heath data in the sport of basketball?

We’d like to explore the types of health data FIBA can collect, including physical and mental health, injury, and others, as well as the ways of collecting or extracting such data or the technologies available to track the data, such as wearable devices, optical tracking systems and others. Perhaps, more importantly, we expect a business proposal FIBA can undertake based on the analysis.

The Challenge runs from September 2025 to December 2025.
